Past Uncovered (Rebecca Simons)

Rebecca Simons works as a photographic artist, educator and editor.

As an artist Rebecca Simons aims to challenge taboos and ignite dialogue, drawing inspiration from the tensions between memories and myths. She is fascinated by how humans shape reality through selective memories and chosen truths – sometimes for improvement, sometimes for survival. Utilizing photography, video, sound, and text, she unravels and reconstructs (family) history, with a focus on exploring personal and collective memory intertwined with identity and trauma. At the core of her work lies active engagement with actors and audiences, achieved through the development of collaborative methods, audience participation, and educational programs that extend beyond her art projects.

Rebecca currently teaches photography part-time at Willem de Kooning Academy in the Netherlands and coordinates various international art and education programs.
